NSSA Sign Code Seminar SIGN CODES: UNDERSTANDING FOR PLANNING held on September 29, 2010 in Beltsville, Maryland

On Wednesday, September 29, 2010 the Northeast States Sign Association, with support from the International Sign Association, presented the sign code training program SIGNS CODES: Understanding for Planning. The day-long seminar program was offered FREE to local planning and zoning officials. The American Planning Association approved the program for 5 hours of AICP Certification Maintenance credit for AICP members.

Over 60 local officials participated in the Northeast States Sign Association and ISA’s day-long training program for planners on September 29th in Beltsville, Maryland. Those who attended earned up to five continuing education credits for their profession. Four speakers helped educate these planners about various sign code issues, including Ray Denault (Twin State Signs, Inc.) on technical sign knowledge, Jeff Bauman (Electro-Matic Products, Inc.) on the effective use and regulation of electronic message centers, the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Major Clark on the value of signs to small businesses, and ISA’s Kenny Peskin on the legal issues involved with sign regulation. This was the sixth NSSA/ISA event focusing on educating state and local officials on sign code issues since 2006, including efforts in Rhode Island, Vermont, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maryland.
