Welcome to the Northeast States Sign Association

Research proves that the Sign Industry is bigger and more influential than perceived

As part of ISA’s wide-ranging effort to raise awareness of the sign industry in America, Ernst & Young released “Size and Economic Impact of the Sign Industry” research in 2014. It found that the sign industry is much bigger and more influential than you might think. For example, as of 2012 the U.S. sign industry had more than 200,000 employees and produced $37.5 billion in economic output. Ernst & Young’s research breaks down economic information on a state-by-state basis, including sign company employment numbers and economic output per year, as of 2012. The northeast region has 30,000 employees and $4.9 billion in economic output.

The infographic also contains data from a survey conducted by Villanova University. The research proves what we’ve known for a long time – that restrictive sign codes hurt the bottom line of sign companies, including companies in the northeast region. For example, NSSA members experience an annual average per company of $93,334 in lost sales due to restrictive sign codes.
